What Is Wearing You Out?!

Life is overwhelming. And in the middle of those seasons, people think they help by saying things like “Something good will come from this.” And that’s a nice sentiment, but it doesn’t acknowledge the pain. The Bible says something better. And he gives hope that as we push through trial, there is reward on the other side. Do you want to experience that reward?

Follower of Jesus:
In
James 1:12 (ESV) tells us that “blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

And 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

6 Sins Against the Holy Spirit

I think it is really important for us to better understand the person of the Holy Spirit.

According to Scripture, the Holy Spirit is not only God, but He has a will, a personality, and can even be offended!
There are six specific sins that can be committed against the Holy Spirit. Today, allow me to focus on one that can be committed by believers—grieving the Holy Spirit.
One of the places in Scripture where we read about grieving the Holy Spirit is in Ephesians 4vs29-30

"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:30‭-‬32 KJV

But what makes the Holy Spirit sad or sorrowful?

Dirty language makes the Holy Spirit sad.

Verse 29 says, “Don’t use foul or abusive language.” The word used here speaks of something that has gone “rotten.” This includes obscene language, profanity, dirty stories, vulgarity, double entendres, etc.
When did it become “cool” for preachers to speak this way from a pulpit? Some people would say this is being “real” or “authentic.”
Guess what? You are not to speak this way—privately or publicly. How about being authentically godly instead?

Anger makes the Holy Spirit sad and sorrowful.
The definition of Anger is “an embittered and resentful spirit that refuses to be reconciled.”
Some people just like to be mad. They live for conflict, arguing, and fighting. This, as with all sin, only gets worse if left unchecked and unrepented of.
The sad thing is that bitter people rarely want to keep it to themselves. Instead, they spread it around. The Bible speaks of “a root of bitterness defiling many”  read Hebrews 12:15 KJV

"Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

It is said that Augustine had a sign on his wall that read, “He who speaks evil of an absent man or woman is not welcome at this table.”
Try the acronym T.H.I.N.K. the next time you are not sure whether or not you should say something.
  • T – Is it Truthful?
  • H – Is it Helpful?
  • I – Is it Inspiring?
  • N – Is it Necessary?
  • K – Is it Kind?
Instead of speaking evil of someone, we are to “be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.”
“But they don’t deserve that!”
True, but neither do you or I—yet God still forgave us.

Social psychology

Friendship with the world is enmity with God. As a follower of Christ, you should be radically different from the world. Jesus said you are the light of the world. Do others see something different in how you live?

1 Peter 2:9 tells us “but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Dealing With the Heaviest Burden

We have a heavy desire for joy and yet we hang it on fragile things that easily snap: health, family, jobs, or stuff. These are all blessings from the Lord. But they are incapable of holding up the lasting joy because they are uncertain. What sorrow are you feeling that Jesus could be turning into joy?

Reading from John 16:24 reminds us, “until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

Bible is Life-Changing

The Bible is the primary means that God uses to teach believers.  The more that they learn what the Bible says and what it means, then the more that the Holy Spirit will use those truths to transform their life.  John 17:17 expresses it this way, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”

What this verse says is that God’s truth is what He uses to actually change a person.  It is what God uses to teach us and to transform our life into becoming more and more like His Son.  When we read it, the Holy Spirit begins to teach us truth that we never knew or understood before, and over a period of time that truth is embraced in our life and by applying it to our life, we begin to be changed.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

Reading the Bible is a very important part of how a Christian grows spiritually.  It would be similar to how a newborn baby grows.  They are fed milk, and as they grow, they begin to eat more solid foods, and then by the time that they become a young person they can eat anything.  However, if they never eat, they will never grow. The same is true of Christians, the more time that the believer spends in God’s Word, the more they will grow spiritually.  “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow…” (1 Peter 2:2)

Jesus told His disciples that the words that He was speaking to them were“spirit and life.” That phrase means is that His Words were spiritual words that were life giving and life transforming.

Say this prophetic word with faith

Father, please give me the strength to spend time in your Word so that my life can reflect your Son Jesus Christ.
